Your Excellency,

I am writing to urge your assistance to ensure that the people of Gaza receive the medical aid which British and European citizens have worked hard to provide for the Palestinian people suffering under Israeli siege in the Gaza Strip.

We understand that the Egyptian government is imposing conditions on the Viva Palestina/ Palestine Solidarity Convoy of 210 aid vehicles which make it impossible for them to leave Aqaba to deliver the ambulances packed with medical aid and the aid trucks with food and educational materials.

As you may be aware, Viva Palestina is a UK registered charity that was   formed earlier this year to provide humanitarian relief for the people of   Gaza . The two previous convoys, which entered Gaza via Eqypt in March and February this year, successfully delivered hundreds of tonnes of desperately needed aid through the Rafah crossing.

Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur stated on 18.12.09
“Two urgent priorities must be stressed on this dismal anniversary: first, Israel’s allies must demand, with a commitment reinforced by a credible threat of economic sanctions, that Israel immediately end its illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.  Second, the Goldstone Report’s recommendations, having confirmed the             commission of war crimes possibly amounting to Crimes Against Humanity, by Israel and Hamas, must be fully and swiftly implemented.”

Alas, the Egyptian government appears to be aiding Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

We appeal to you to convey our demand to the Egyptian authorities that the convoy be allowed to travel to Gaza through Egypt and to the Rafah crossing to show the Palestinian people there that they are not forgotten by people of conscience across the world.

Imagine hundreds of thousands of peaceful international and Palestinian marchers, led by Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Diana Buttu, Norman Finkelstein, Noami Klein, Arun Gandhi, George Galloway, and other prominent opponents of the siege. Imagine them, approaching the Erez crossing under the eyes of the international media, breaking the siege for once and for all. This is the Gaza Freedom March!

The Gaza Freedom March Campaign plans to take thousands of international marchers to Gaza on Jan. 1, 2010, and challenge once and for all the Israeli blockade at the Erez crossing. Go with them, or support someone else who’s willing to go. Events to raise money to help enable people to go on the March in Gaza are planned throughout the Fall.

All that is neccessary for evil to prevail is that good people do nothing

How many times have heard criticism of our forebearers for saying nothing and doing nothing whilst the Holocaust was taking place?  The study of the holocaust is compulsory in British schools.  Every year, across the United Kingdom hundreds of thousands of individuals take part in events organised by schools, faith groups, local councils, youth groups, race equality and community groups to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.  It is for good reason;  so that we learn the lessons of the past to build a better future now.

Yet many of the same people who rightly grieve for the victims and rightly want to remember seem to turn a blind eye to what is to the Palestinians (and to those who know) tantamount to a holocaust in progress in Palestine.

Indeed many would be find it offensive to refer to a Palestinian holocaust without even bothering to look at the facts.

But when an immigrant people clear you off your land, commit massacres, demolish homes, destroy farming, restrict your movement, deny you your living, to make way for themselves, and kill thousands, maim thousands and incarcerate thousands in a tiny country  for exercising the legitimate right to resist, then what can you call it?

We have a duty to ourselves and to humanity to take notice of what is happening around us and do our part in speaking out against crimes against humanity, especially as we live in an open democracy with the power to influence our government and fellow people.

What you can do.

1. Learn the facts . This website and the links on it give you free access to evidence of what is really happening

2. Spread the word. Talk about it. Get the groups you belong to talking about. Network the information as widely as you can. Sign petitions.

3. Before elections, find out the views of the candidates on the issues. Write to them. Attend hustings and question them. Turn out to vote and vote for the Candidates who support justice.

4. Lobby your MP and MEP. Write to them . Ask MP’s to sign petitions,  sign early day motions (EDMs), write to the Ministers and ask Parliamentary questions.

5. Watch the media and write in to show your indignation when injustice is done and your government at best does nothing to stop or prevent it, and at worse colludes with or supports the perpetrators of those injustices. Write to complain when you see evidence of biased and dishonest reporting, which is often by ommission of action or argument of one side of the dispute.

6. You may want to consider joining and organisation such as LFoP and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. There is strength in numbers. Or you can donate to them.

7. Support demonstrations and rallys that protest against injustice and call for the rights and freedom of the the Palestinian people.

8. Join or support our campaigns. Demonstrations and public protests may not be for you. But you can support the Boyctt Israeli Goods campaign and join us in leafleting.

This website aims to assist you in all these actions. You can  access :

  • factsheets, news reports, written and visual evidence of the facts and links which will lead to further information
  • questions and questionnaires for candidates and elected representatives
  • petitions to sign
  • EDMs for your MP to sign
  • Sample letters to MPs, Ministers and media
  • Information for schools
